Responsible IT Tips
We have put together some information to help you use IT in a responsible way. If you own a computer or think about buying one, these are just the tips for you.
Energy Reduction Tips
- If you’re thinking about buying new IT equipment, buy energy efficient computer products. An ENERGY STAR® qualified computer, for example, uses much less electricity than computers without enabled power management features.
- Use flat panel liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors versus conventional CRT monitors, which provide up to 70% power savings and up to twice the lifespan.
- Select the right-sized monitor to meet your needs. The bigger the monitor, the more energy it uses.
- If you think about buying a printer, scanner or copying machine, you can choose multifunction devices that do the work that used to require several machines.
- You can reduce business travel by using video conferencing solutions.
- You can save energy by changing the settings on your computer. Check out this video to learn how!
Paper Reduction Tools and Tips
- Minimize print waste with two-sided printing, reducing margins and using smaller font.
- Print on recycled paper, and then recycle it again.
- Reduce paper by reading and shopping online. Some companies also offer to send you invoices via email (e.g. for your mobile phone subscription).
- Use Use HP's Smart Web Printing to conserve paper.
Complete the Conservation Cycle
- When your IT equipment is at the end of its lifecycle, check out the recycling or reuse options available to you. Some communities will take back computer equipment to reuse or recycle it. HP also offers different end-of-life services.
