HP and JA-YE

About HP

We were once a start-up too! Everything began with two students at Stanford University in 1939 who decided to create their own company. Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard developed their first product - an audio oscillator for Walt Disney company - in a garage in Palo Alto near San Francisco.

Today, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is a leading technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally. With a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure, HP is among the world's largest IT companies, with revenue totalling $100.5 billion for the four fiscal quarters ended July 31, 2007. HP has been operating in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region since 1959 and is the Number 1 IT company in this region. Currently, HP has 43 subsidiaries and 41,700 employees in EMEA.

JA-YE and HP partnership

The partnership between HP and JA-YE in Europe started in 1996. To date, both organisations are working together in 28 countries in Europe on a number of different projects. These have included support for enterprise education programmes in schools and special events for students through cash and equipment donations, as well as the participation of HP employees as volunteers.

HP also provides leadership at the national board level for JA-YE in many countries as well as at the European level.

With the HP RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS COMPETITION, HP is leveraging its long-term relationship with JA-YE in order to raise awareness among young people about important issues facing businesses today such as concerns about corporate social responsibility. HP is sponsoring the competition for students in the JA-YE Company Programme at secondary schools.

HP recently supported a pan-European survey by JA-YE on youth attitudes to entrepreneurship (Enterprise 2010-The Next Generation) and supported e-learning events like the HP European Business Challenge.
