HP and JA

About HP

We were once a start-up too! Everything began with two students at Stanford University in 1939 who decided to create their own company. Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard developed their first product - an audio oscillator for Walt Disney company - in a garage in Palo Alto near San Francisco.

Today, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is a leading technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally. With a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure, HP is among the world's largest IT companies, with revenue totalling $100.5 billion for the four fiscal quarters ended July 31, 2007. HP has been operating in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region since 1959 and is the Number 1 IT company in this region. Currently, HP has 43 subsidiaries and 41,700 employees in EMEA.

JA and HP partnership

It is the multi-decade partnerships, like that with HP, that have provided for 90 years of Junior Achievement success in North America. And HP's involvement in providing the financial and human resources for various projects during the current fiscal year has helped literally every member of the JA North America family.

Building on the success of the European Competition, HP will offer the first Sustainable Business Award at the inaugural North American Competition this coming July. JA Company students from the United States and Canada will come together to prove their business acumen - and to enjoy outstanding commoraderie - for the event which will be held in Boston, Massachusettes this first year. The Responsible Business Competition is also expanding into Latin America this year.

Additionally, after HP was introduced to the Business Transformation Initiative ("BTI") that is JA's transitional effort to bring all 137 JA offices in the United States, with Canada coming along right afterwards, onto a consistent computer platform. This will allow all offices to manage all internal communications. HP offered to provide up to two new computers to every office, ensuring that when the powerful system is launched at each office, they will have sufficient power to take full advantage of its capabilities. In addition to benefits specifically for North America, the agreement crafted through JA Worldwide provides for innovative delivery of programming for students in hard-to-reach locations that will be piloted in Africa in 2009 as well as renewed funding, for the 20th year, for the Hewlett Packard Global Business Challenge the student competition that blends JA Titan and international business into an exciting event.
